      Step1.Greetings and introductions

      Try to help my students to know how to greet each other as well as to encourage my students to be brave and active in my class so as to make a good lead-in and impression.

      Step2.Lead-in

      Since you know how to greet each other, it is quite good to have good manners. And it is also good and important to know something about table manners at a dinner party. Do you know about them,boys and girls? If not, today we are going to learn some table manners at a dinner party(title)

      Step3.Brainstorms

      ①Ask students to deal with the pre-reading as quickly as possible.

      ②Ask students to think of some situations for being impolite,such as “I went to the classroom for being late without telling the teacher”

      Step4.Reading coprehension

      ①Deal with some new words

      ②Brainstorm (10 questions)

      ③skimming(questions)

      ④scanning(on page 39)

      ⑤careful reading(deal with any language points if possible )

      ⑥r(nóng)eading and thinking post-reading

      Step5.Reading aloud

      Play the tape of the passage for the students to listen to and follow

      A.Pre-reading discussions

      1.Ask students to deal with pre-reading part in pairs .Then ask them to show their own opinions(page 38)

      2.Ask students to think of some situations ,which means being impolite.

      3.In those impolite situations, what shall we do ?

      4.Deal with new words

      Let students talk about the names of the food and tools for eating in competitive ways. Then deal with the new words.

      3、Reading and thinking

      Answer these questions in your own words. You can also use as many words and phrases as possible in the text.

      a) People who go to a formal Western dinner party for the first time may be surprised by table manners.

      What does the sentence imply? (Is it easy for him/her to go to such a dinner party without knowing any Western table manners? Did he/she think/expect there were so much table etiquette?…)

      b)Have you ever been to any dinner party?Did you behave well?What impression did you make on the other guests?What impression did the others leave on you ? In what ways?

      c)Instead of a hot, damp cloth, mapkin is often seen at the Chinese dinner party nowadays. What do you think it implies? How would you use it ?

      d)Some people pray before they start eating ,and other people may keep silent for a moment . What is this custom related to?Or what do they believe in?

      Do you pray before each meal? why(not)?

      e)What do soft drinks refer to? Is white or red wine a soft drink?

      f)Do people say anything or keep silent when drinking to one’s health or drinking a toast? What do you usually do when you drink a toast?

      g)Do Chinese have any table manners? How much do you know about them? Are they the same as the western table manners or different from them?

      We’ll read more and get it.
