      The Third Period

      Teaching aims :

      Explain the difficult points in the unit.

      Teaching process :

      一.Language points:

      1.each/every/one/this means + 單數(shù)

      some/several/many/few means + 復(fù)數(shù)

      any means + 單數(shù)/復(fù)數(shù)

      Are there any means of getting there?

      The quickest means of travel is by plane.

      Every possible means has been tried.

      Teaching Aims:

      1. Review the language points .

      2. Review verb tenses.

      3. Use the present continuous tense for future actions.

      Teaching methods:

      1. Listening and speaking.

      2. Inductive and deductive method

      Teaching aids:

      Slide projector

      Teaching process:

      1. Review the text and the phrases by asking questions. Then have a dictation on the phrases.

      2. Ask the students to read the text and underline the verbs that express future. Check their answers in pairs.

      3. eg. Jane and Betty are going on separate holidays in a few days’ time.

      How are you going to the airport ?

      a. The present continuous tense may also be used for future actions. It is used to denote an action which can be preplanned or prearranged. Many verbs can be used like this. For example, go, come, leave, get, arrive, meet, see off, take off, return, start, start, fly, stay etc.

      They are arriving home today.

      We are going to the airport to see her off.

      b. Words like often, always, constantly, forever can be used in the present continuous tense to express one’s feelings.

      She is always thinking of others.

      He is always asking such stupid questions.

      c. Words like be, have, own, know, remember, forget , forget, see, hear, wish, love, want cannot be used in this tense.

      4. Ask the students to read the dialogue in pairs.

      5. Act it out.

      6. Explain the following:

      a. go on separate holidays separate adj.

      separate A from B separate v.

      b. in a few days’ time ------in a few days

      c. be off take off go off see--- off turn off

      Finish Ex 2 in the WB on page 99.

      d. say “hi” /sorry /hello to Bob for me

      7. Practice Grammar 2.

      Ask more similar questions about reading, writing, shopping and working. Then fill in the blanks.

      8. Practice Grammar 3.

      Study the example. Write sentences about the items in the chart.

      Ask some of the students to say something about different subjects.

      9. Finish the exercises (3, 1, 2) in the grammar part on the WB.

      10. Homework:

      a. Make a summary of the present continuous tense.

      b. Preview the next part.
