a number of 和the number of的區(qū)別
（1）a number of
意為“許多，大量”，后加可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)。作主語時，謂語動詞用復(fù)數(shù)。
（2）the number of
意為“......的數(shù)量”，后加可數(shù)名詞復(fù)數(shù)。作主語時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)。
2a number of用法
修飾可數(shù)名詞,就像some,many,lots of,a lot of那樣的.注意a number of修飾的可數(shù)名詞要用復(fù)數(shù)形式,be動詞也要用復(fù)數(shù)（即are,具體因時態(tài)而定）!
e.g.A large number of students are ill these days because of the swine flu.

3the number of用法
修飾了名詞之后be動詞要用單數(shù),因為（從中文意思方面理解）數(shù)量就是一個數(shù)字,所以必須要用單數(shù)（即is,具體因時態(tài)而定).
e.g.The number of the students in our class is 53.
我們班學(xué)生的人數(shù)（即數(shù)量）是53.
