　　詩人簡介：

　　羅伯特·弗羅斯特（Robert ·Frost ）（1874—1963)，美國農民詩人。生于加利福尼亞州。弗羅斯特常被稱為“交替性的詩人”，意指他處在傳統詩歌和現代派詩歌交替的一個時期。他又被認為與艾略特同為美國現代詩歌的兩大中心。

　　在美國，弗羅斯特廣泛受其人民的尊敬。在他的一生中，他曾四次獲得美國享譽最高的普利策文學獎。

　　I have been one acquainted with the night.

　　I have walked out in rain --and back in rain.

　　I have outwalked the furthest city light.

　　I have looked down the saddest city lane.

　　I have passed by the watchman on his beat

　　And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

　　我以為我早就熟悉這黑夜。

　　我冒雨出去，又冒雨回來。

　　我已越出街燈照亮的邊界。

　　我看到城中的小巷最悲慘。

　　我經過敲更的守夜人身邊，

　　我不愿多講，低垂下眼簾。

　　I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet

　　When far away an interrupted cry

　　Came over houses from another street,

　　But not to call me back or say good-bye;

　　And further still at an unearthly height

　　One luminary clock against the sky

　　Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.

　　I have been one acquainted with the night.
